Baja CaliforniaPeninsula is a place situated in North America. The Baja California Peninsula is in a Western Mexico and it means as a Lower California Peninsula in Spanish. The Peninsula is having total area of 143, 396 km². It is extended for about 1250km from Mexicali to Cabo San Lucas of North and Baja California Sur in South and separated the Pacific Ocean from the sea of Cortes that is from Gulf of California.
It is connected to Maryland with the strip of land of Sonora. The specialty of the place is the four deserts including Central Coast Desert, San Felipe Desert, Magdalena Plain Desert and Vizcaino Desert. It is divided into two parts as the northern part, which is the state of Baja California and the southern part, which is state of Baja California Sur. However, the citizens living in the Baja-California Sur state are now known as Sud-Californiano. Mexicali is the capital city of Baja California and La Paz is capital of the Baja California Sur state. According to geology, Baja California peninsula was the part of North American Plate. The East Pacific Rise had begun to cut into edges of the North American Plate by some million years ago and after that East Pacific Rise to spread in the northward direction that resulted in the Gulf of California. Baja California peninsula is now one of the parts of Pacific Plate. However, the place has faced four earthquakes in August 2009 in the region of Santa Isabel, Baja California, Mexico. There were four temblors, from which first one was of 5.8 in magnitude followed by another struck of 6.9-magnitude just after five minutes. Third and fourth struck were of 5.0 and 5.9 magnitudes respectively. There were no any damages and injuries because of the earthquakes.
