California Earthquake
On August 3, 2009 the earthquakes were occurred in California in between Pacific plate and North America. It was of 6.9 magnitude earthquake. It was happened at 10:59:56 am on August 3, 2009. The epicenter of the quake was on the 22 km from the island Isla Angel de la Guarda and 36 km from the Tiburon Island. The actual place where the earthquake occurred is the part of tectonic boundary between Pacific plate and North American plate.
The quake was about 6 miles deep and in the populated area. However, there were no any significant damages. According to USGS there were in all three quakes from which two were of 5.0 magnitudes. However, according to record of seismography, the radiation of the radiation pattern of the major shock on August 3, 2009 means that it is the result of strike slip faulting.
Still there are no any connections with the specific fault regarding to geological map behind the earth quake. Gulf of California has faced various earthquakes but the largest historical shock was of about 7 magnitudes at the Gulf of California.
