Clay Marzo
Clay Marzo is one of the most popular and gifted surfers. He was born and lives in the end of Maui. But very sad thing is happened to this player; he diagnosed with the Asperger syndrome. On August 4, 2009 a special feature on Clay Marzo was aired on ESPN E: 60. The segment has told the story of Asperger Syndrome diagnosis of Clay and has also featured about the award winning film Clay Marzo: Just Add Water. The show was aired at 4:00 PM (PST) and 7:00 PM (EST).
There was another show in which he featured in the surf film named 'Today Tomorrow'. His success includes the nomination of the Year 2007 Surfer Poll Awards, Water man of the Year 2006, 2005 NSSA Open Men's National Champion, 2005 Camp Hobgood and Young Guns 2. There were more other records of his success where he scored best 10's 1st in NSSA History, 2005 Quicksilver 'Young Guns', 2005 Camp Hobgood 'King of the Camp', NSSA 2004 Open Hr. Champion, ISA World Jr. in South Africa 5th place, Explorer Boys Champion and USSF Championship in 2003.
Clay is only 20 years of old and got diagnosed by the Asperger but still he is concentrating on his game his passion. He is very unique with his obsession towards the sport. Most children with this syndrome experience lack of co-ordination but Clay is perfect with his game after diagnosing with Asperger that is why he is being called as 'the Rubber-Band Man'.
