Louisville Flooding
Louisville, Kentucky of the Indiana state was flooded on August 4, 2009 after the hit by thunderstorms. The western area of Louisville received about 6 inches rain that resulted into the flood. The highways were totally closed while the power supply was also off during the flood. However, no any major injury was recorded. The rescue and fire of Louisville has been called for help.
According to officials the period of 60 minute of rain recorded on Tuesday morning was of most rain in the history of the city. After this morning Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson held a press conference to sort out the problems happened after flood. The city was warned with a flash flood issue at 10:03 AM on August 4, 2009.
The areas of the Louisville such as the university of Louisville campus, Downtown Louisville, Shively and St. Matthews were got the hardest hit of flood. This is the worst flood in the history of Louisville and Kentucky recording the 11 inches of rain in 24 hour of period. This storm was classified as the "Flash Flood". Number of cars floated away, which were parked along the street.
The city faced the problems like;
About 20,000 customers of Gas and Electric lost power.
Two apartment got fire because of sparking of light in Jefferson County.
Thousands of books from the library of the city were destroyed.
Some people were saved by boat and shifted to University of Louisville campus.
The officials saved 10 kittens and dogs from an animal shelter.
The officials also reacted for about 200 calls for water rescue.
