Treasury is a place where the currency including rubies and diamonds are kept. It was first applied in the Classical times to explain votive buildings, which were erected to keep gifts to the gods. The top of the treasure is mostly known as a treasurer.
The purpose of the treasury is to make sure about the currency including state monies, public funds of state and local governments', return contributions of delayed employee and many other assets held for safekeeping. Treasury also meant to provide information, guidance and education regarding to availability of the state employee delayed return plan and the options of investments.
A United States Treasury security is government debt and is issued by the United States Department of the Treasury. The treasury securities debt are mostly referred as 'Treasuries' and is the financial instruments of the United States Federal government. Marketable treasury securities are of four types Treasury bills, Treasury bonds, Treasury bills and Treasury Inflation Protected Securities (TIPS).
Treasury bills that are also known as T-Bills will grow-up in one year. However, treasury bills do not pay any interest like zero-coupon bonds; instead of that they prefer to buy it on discount of the par value. T-Bills are issued on with some specific maturity dates such as 28 days, 91 days, 182 days and 364 days. Recently in 2008, the Treasury Department make an announcement of returning of the fixed rate component.
