October 4, 1895 was the day when the first U. S. Championship was played at the Newport Country Club in Newport, Rhode Island. The first championship was concluded only 36-hole competition and was played in a single day only. 21 year old Horace Rawlins was the first winner of the first championship. He received $150 cash and $50 gold medal. From 1911 the tournament was grabbed by the players from the United States. However, from 1950 the history has been changed with the winner of other countries rather than United States. South Africa made a record by winning the championships for five times since 1965. Tony Jacklin of England was the last winner of the US. Open as no other player from Europe won US Open since 1970. The 2007 US Open golf championship was held from June 14 to June 17, 2007 at the Oakmont Country Club. The US Open of June 2007 was the 107th edition, which was returned to Oakmont Country Club after 13 years. Oakmont county Club was chosen by the USGA Championship Committee on October 2, 2001. Tommy Armour (1927), Sam Parks, Jr (1935), Ben Hogen (1953), Jack Nicklaus (1962), Johnny Miller (1973), Larry Nelson (1983) and Ernie Els were the champions of Okamont.
